RM 03846.035 Preparing Forms SSA-7000 U5 to Establish or Adjust Self-Employment Income When Amount(s)
Will be Increased to the Next Higher Dollar
Effective August 1, 1969, amounts of SEI being established for calendar years are
increased to the next higher dollar by the related computer programs, except where
the amount being established is equal to the maximum. The manner in which Forms SSA-7000
U5 are coded to provide for raising the amounts to the next higher dollar when SEI
is being established or adjusted for fiscal or short years, is outlined in RM 04600ff.
Prepare Forms SSA-7000 U5 in accordance with RM 03846.030. Coverage examiners are to take no action to adjust the amount in item 9(b) to the
next higher dollar.

A.
When establishing SEI on the basis of evidence, enter the exact amount of SEI being
established in item 9(b) of the Form SSA-7000 U5.
NOTE: When the Form SSA-7000 U5 is processed the amount entered in 9(b) will be raised
to the next higher dollar. The increased (even dollar) amount will be shown on the
earnings record.

When adjusting SEI on the basis of evidence:

In item 9(c) of the Form SSA-7000 U5, enter the amount posted to the earnings record
exactly as shown on the MEF printout, SSA-1826 printout or the Form SSA-7009 itemization.

In item 9(b) of the Form SSA-7000 U5, enter the exact amount of SEI that the person
is entitled to have credited to his earnings record as shown by the evidence.
NOTE: If the amount being credited is other than the maximum, it will be raised to the
next higher dollar and posted when the adjustment is processed.
