GN 03330.001 Subpoenas and Court Orders - Introduction

This subchapter contains the general policy and operating procedures regarding the Social Security Administration's (SSA's) response to court orders and subpoenas, in cases in which SSA is not a party to the suit. This subchapter also discusses appearances by SSA employees as witnesses in court.

Policies and practices of courts at all levels of government vary considerably from place to place. SSA field offices (FOs) and regional offices (ROs) should therefore use their knowledge of local courts in order to work with them in accordance with SSA's regulations and instructions within this subchapter.
