We published Social Security Ruling (SSR) 06-01p, Evaluating Cases Involving Tremolite Asbestos-Related Impairments, on May 26, 2006.
This SSR, which took effect upon publication, explains the types of impairments that
might result from exposure to tremolite asbestos. Further, it explains how we evaluate
these impairments in the five-step sequential evaluation process.
Please Note: On January 18, 2017, we published a final rule revising our medical evidence rules
(see 82 FR 5844). These rules, which revise how we consider and articulate our consideration
of medical opinions and prior administrative medical findings, are effective March
27, 2017. In SSR 06-01p, this policy is discussed under the second question of subsection “Policy Interpretation,”
under subheading “Residual Functional Capacity.” Beginning March 27, 2017, see 20 CFR §§ 404.1520c and 416.920c for how we consider and articulate medical opinions and prior administrative medical
findings for claims filed on or after March 27, 2017, and 20 CFR §§ 404.1527 and 416.927 for evaluating opinion evidence for claims filed before March 27, 2017.
