The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides data electronically to states for
use in determining entitlement and eligibility for federally-funded benefit programs, such
as Medicare and Medicaid, subsidized housing, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program,
and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, as well as other federally-funded, state-administered
benefit programs. SSA also provides electronic data to states for use in administering
state-funded, state-administered benefit programs on a reimbursable basis. State agencies
that receive SSA data must administer programs that meet our criteria for health or
income maintenance programs.
For more information on SSA’s data exchange program, see DX 00101.010 Overview of the Data Exchange Program. See GN 03314.155 Automated Data Exchanges between the Social Security Administration (SSA) and State
Agencies, for more information on state-related data exchanges.
