RM 10201.045 Third-Party Requests about Social Security Numbers (SSNs) Already Assigned

When responding to third-party requests about SSNs already assigned, inform inquirers that:

  Beginning June 25, 2011, we randomly assign all SSNs and we no longer update the “high group” listing on the internet at http://www.socialsecurity.gov/employer/ssnvhighgroup.htm .

  We do not have a general listing of SSNs based on when we assigned them. We keep information about SSNs confidential (e.g., when and to whom we assigned them).

• •

  Commercial enterprises that purport to have this information did not get it from SSA, which means the accuracy of the information is questionable.
