HI 00630.130 General Enrollment Period - Medicare Outside U.S.
Social Security beneficiaries living outside the United States who are not enrolled
for Supplementary Medical Insurance (SMI) are not contacted during a General Enrollment
Period (GEP). Such contacts would encourage enrollment by many individuals who would
not receive benefits under the program.
However, if correspondence is received during the GEP from a beneficiary wishing to
enroll and they qualify, the module Hospital Insurance (HI)-SMI clerk will prepare
a mock form CMS-40B for submittal to the Electronic Accounting Machine (EAM) and forward
the folder to files or the next work station indicated.
