Translate dates as they are shown on the document. Use a translator's note (GN 00301.190) to show the calendar conversions. For example, March 2, 1905 (Julian calendar) converts
to March 15, 1905 (Gregorian calendar).
Be alert to cases in which the date shows the day first and then the month since many
Europeans use this format (i.e., February 7, 1920 could be shown as 7/II/20 or as
7/2/20).
NOTE: Months are abbreviated occasionally by writing the number equivalent of the first
part of the name—7/ber, 8/ber, 9/ber and 10/ ber as September, October, November and
December.
Refer calendar conversions to CTS in OIO if the dates cannot be converted by instructions
in this subchapter or there is a question.
