In Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) certification cases (RR Cert), SSA is responsible for releasing an award notice to the beneficiary. The award notice informs the beneficiary:
that the RRB will issue Social Security payments, and
of the entitlement date and the benefit amount under the Social Security Act, and
to report any events that would affect receipt of Social Security benefits to either a SSA or RRB district office. You can see the system’s generated notice language, in NL 00720.315.
For a subsequent award, we will send award notices to newly entitled beneficiaries, and adjustment notices to previously entitled non-RR Cert beneficiaries. However, RRB will send adjustment notices to previously entitled RR Cert beneficiaries.
