The RRB obtains this form to protect a Social Security filing date. Upon receipt of
Form RR-8 (Notice of Protection of Filing Date for Social Security Benefits), contact
the claimant to file for SSA benefits. If the claimant already filed an application,
process the RR-8 as a duplicate application, unless you can establish an earlier material
filing date using the RR-8.
If the claimant does not respond to the request to file an application, or indicates
that they do not wish to file, process the RR-8 as an application disallowance, using
disallowance code 64.
For additional information regarding applications filed with the RRB, see RS 01601.230.
