It is recognized that for a number of patients with ESRD the lack of reimbursement
for salaried home dialysis aides poses a very serious problem. The present provisions
of the law were carefully examined. It was concluded there is no basis for payment
for home dialysis aides under the durable medical equipment provision, which generally
limits home dialysis coverage to equipment and supplies.
