NL 10601.215 Why are Notices Important?
Notices are one of the main ways we communicate with the public. The volume of notices
we issue each year shows how vital our responsibility is to send clear, correct, and
understandable notices.
If a notice is clear and easy to understand, the reader is more satisfied with our
service. The reader can understand information that is important to them and they
can act on it.
The American public in general, is also interested in our notices. Organizations that
work for both large and small special-interest groups want our notices to be clear,
concise, accessible, and easy-to-understand for the people they represent. Individual
taxpayers care about how we issue our notices. Taxpayers look to us to send our notices
in an efficient way, with the lowest possible cost to the American public.
Notices that are not timely, or that the reader does not understand, increase the
inquiry workload in our field offices and teleservice centers. That is why our commitment
to provide clear notices is part of our agency's goal to increase customer satisfaction.
Good notices not only help our customer, but lead to a much more efficient delivery
of services for SSA.
