HI 00401.257 Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility (CORF) Defined

A comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facility (CORF) is a facility which:

1. A. 

   is primarily engaged in providing (by or under the supervision of physicians) diagnostic, therapeutic, and restorative services to outpatients for the rehabilitation of injured, disabled, or sick persons;

2. B. 

   provides at least the following comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation services:

   1. 1. 

      physicians' services;

   2. 2. 

      physical therapy; and

   3. 3. 

      social or psychological services;

3. C. 

   maintains clinical records on all patients;

4. D. 

   has policies established by a group of professional personnel, including one or more physicians;

5. E. 

   has a requirement that every patient must be under the care of a physician;

6. F. 

   is licensed or meets licensing standards if located in a State which licenses facilities of this type;

7. G. 

   has in effect a utilization review plan in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Secretary;

8. H. 

   has in effect an overall plan and budget; and

9. I. 

   meets such other conditions of participation as the Secretary may find necessary.
