RM 03851.005 Expediting Telephone Inquiries Involving Earnings Discrepancy Cases

1. A. 

   Upon receipt of a telephone inquiry, ensure that the following rules are applied:

   1. 1. 

      Do not disclose confidential information by telephone.

   2. 2. 

      Verify that the party requesting the information is entitled to receive it.

   3. 3. 

      Honor requests for certified earnings records (SSA-794) when:

      1. a. 

         A written request is submitted stating the records are needed for court proceedings or,

      2. b. 

         Authorized by an approving official.

   4. 4. 

      Authorized disclosures are only made in writing.

   5. 5. 

      Provide the following address for the requester to submit information or authorization:

      Social Security Administration
      Division of Earnings and Business Services
      6100 Wabash Avenue Baltimore, Maryland 21215-3757
      

2. B. 

   Document the request in the appropriate SSA system.

3. C. 

   Once the written request is received and if additional information is needed, follow the DIRCON procedures and send the appropriate notice.

4. D. 

   If no additional information is needed, process accordingly and send the appropriate notice, and follow DIRCON procedures, if necessary.
