GN 01747.010 Overview of the Danish Social Security System

The Danish Social Security system provides a wide range of benefits including retirement,
survivors and disability benefits through two separate programs, which together make
up a two-tier social insurance system.

The basic program called the Folkepension (FP) or “Social” pension is a residence-based, non-contributory flat-rate benefit
that provides retirement, disability and survivors’ benefits to all qualified individuals
      of Denmark.

The Labour Market Supplementary Pension (ATP) provides an old-age pension that is based on the length of time a worker contributed
to the program and the amount of the contributions. It does not provide for disability
      benefits.
