CE providers may use support staff to help perform the CE. Any such support staff (e.g., X-ray technician, nurse, etc.) must meet appropriate licensing or certification requirements of the State. CE providers must certify that their support staff meets State requirements and have not been sanctioned.

DDSs should:

  Obtain a signed statement (see exhibit, DI 39569.400) from the CE provider certifying that all support staff used to help perform CEs meet State licensing or certification requirements and have not been sanctioned.

  Retain the signed statement in the CE provider’s file.

CE providers will provide the names of all support personnel, if requested by the DDS.

DDSs should perform routine CE oversight in accordance with established DDS procedures. A CE provider should not be used if the provider uses support staff to help perform CEs who do not meet appropriate licensing or certification requirements of the State.

DDS staff will explain to new CE providers that support staff must meet certification and licensing requirements.
