DI 81001.015 Determining if a Folder is a Certified Electronic Folder (CEF)

A. Certified or non-certified electronic folder

The CEF is the official electronic folder. There are no paper folders associated with the case. There are also electronic folder (EF) cases, which are electronic cases, but the official folder is paper. It is important to distinguish between the two:

  • The CEF contains all documentation necessary to the case.

  • An EF may contain some, but not all, necessary documentation. An EF has a paper folder associated with it.

B. How to determine if a folder is a CEF

1. When searching for a case

To determine if a folder is a CEF, open eView and take the following actions:

  • Search for the client in the Disability Folder Selection screen by entering the client name, client social security number (SSN), number holder SSN, or Electronic Disability Collect System (EDCS) Folder number.

  • Find the case you are looking for from the matching cases that display on the screen.

  • In the Search results, look in the fourth column titled “CEF’, either a yes (Y) or no (N) indicator displays.

2. When working in a case

To determine if a folder is a CEF while working a case in eView take the following actions:

  • Review the second line of the title bar in the eView frame where CEF displays a Y or N indicator; or

  • Access the Status/History tab in eView - When a check mark is in the box next to the paper folder indicator (PFI) “A paper folder has been created for this filing,” the case is an EF, not a CEF.

For more information on paper folder indicators see DI 81001.020.
