A individual may audio record his or her telephone or in-person contact or interview
with SSA personnel. Employees should not, however, suggest or encourage the use of
recording devices. Use of a third-party recording tool or service may be subject to
third-party terms or privacy policies and could result in the unauthorized disclosure
of personal information. Number holders must provide consent for SSA to disclose their
information in the presence of a third-party recording tool or service. SSA does not
permit third-party callers to use third-party recording tools or services to record
telephone calls with SSA. Refer questions concerning the use of audio recordings in
SSA facilities to Income Security Policy.
