RM 01310.012 Information Contained in Special Insert for Statement Recipients Aged 55 or Older

A. Introduction

In October 2000, we will begin including with each Social SecurityS tatement sent to an individual who is age 55 or older a special insert discussing retirement options. This information is designed to help recipients decide when they want to begin receiving their retirement benefits.

The insert discusses reduced retirement benefits, benefits at full retirement age and the effect of delayed retirement credits beyond full retirement age. It also tells the recipient how to apply for the benefits and what documents he or she should have available to support the application.
