GN 00205.080 Questions About the Number Holder’s (NH) Employment and Self-Employment (SE) for Retirement, Survivor, Disability Insurance (RSDI) Applications

A. Background

Questions on most applications request the name and address of the NH's recent or present employer and the dates work began and ended. The Modernized Claims System (MCS) propagates this information only if the claimant states that they worked in the last four years. For years after 1978, request a SEQY or DEQY for all earnings and employer information.

B. Procedure for paper applications

The claimant is uncertain about employment periods.

 

 

Use “Unknown.”

The NH was self-employed during an employment period.

Use “self” or “self-employed.”

The claimant alleges agricultural employment.

Ask for employer information for the years of alleged work.

A part of the work for an individual employer is within the requested period but begins before the period.

Two acceptable answers are the first month of the period or an indication that the employment began before the period without any specific dates.
