GN 00307.687 Evidence From the Federated States of Micronesia

A. Introduction

Evidence from the Federated States of Micronesia is reliable. However, clerical errors in the transcription of information, and local customs and practices that make name changes common, can create problems in ensuring that conflicting documents/statements all refer to the same person.

B. Procedure

If a claimant submits a Micronesian document and there is a material discrepancy in either the date of the event or the claimant’s name, obtain:

  • An explanation from the claimant as to the reason for the discrepancy (If the discrepancy is in the claimant’s name, include a list of the different names that he/she has used and the basis for the name changes.); and

  • Other documents which contain information about the issue involved in the discrepancy.

NOTE: The amount of other evidence needed will vary depending on the circumstances and the discrepancy.
