A. Policy for requesting birth, marriage, divorce, and death records

Bosnia-Herzegovina has no single, nationwide repository of civil registration records. Records are held at the local level in municipalities. Individuals need to provide identification documents such as their passport or ID card to confirm their identity.

B. Procedure for requesting birth, marriage, divorce, and death records

1. Office to Contact

Contact the local civil registration offices in the government local office where the event took place or state civil archives for birth, marriage, and death records. Contact the municipal court of the town where the divorce was granted.

2. Birth records

Include the following information in requests for birth records:

  • Full name of child at birth

  • Gender of child

  • Date and place of birth

  • Names of the parents, including the maiden surname

  • Names of the parents of a single parent

  • Address at the time of birth

3. Fee

  • Birth certificate - 4km

  • Slovene tolars - 420 (The certificate is issued on an international form in 8 languages including English)

  • Divorce - Varies
