GN 01707.012 Compulsory Coverage and Contributions Under the German System

A. Policy — coverage

1. Employees

Coverage under one of the three major social insurance pension systems is compulsory for most employees.

2. Self-employed

The Salaried Employees' and Wage Earners' Pension Insurance systems provide compulsory coverage for a large number of self-employed persons.

B. Policy — contributions

Covered employees and their employers, as well as covered self-employed persons, are subject to compulsory contributions.
