GN 03980.060 Prohibiting Representation by Partners of SSA Officers or Employees
Persons who are not themselves employees or ex-employees of the U.S. Government may also be prohibited by title 18, U.S. Code, section 207 from acting as a representative of a social security claimant if they are presently in partnership with current employees of the U.S. Government. A business or professional partner of an SSA employee may not act as representative of any person in a social security claim if his partner is participating (or has participated) personally and substantially as an SSA employee with respect to the matter in issue. This prohibition does not apply to the partner of a former SSA employee.
The partner of a former SSA employee is subject to the same conditions as any other person seeking to represent a party before SSA, as provided for in GN 03910.001-GN 03970.040.
