RS 00208.070 Development for Disabled Child Prior to Age 16 Procedure
Follow the instructions below to develop a claim for a disabled child prior to age 16.
Have the mother or father of the claimant complete a Form SSA-3368, Disability Report — Adult.
Prepare a folder for the disability material on the child.
Forward the folder to the Disability Determination Services (DDS) of the State in which the child resides.
Notify the Processing Center (PC) on a report of contact that a childhood disability determination is pending. For procedures on childhood disability development, see RS 00203.085B.
Explain to the mother or father that her or his benefits will terminate if the child attains age 16 before we make the disability determination.
If other claimants are simultaneously filing, process the disability claims as a delayed claim.
