RS 00208.070 Development for Disabled Child Prior to Age 16 Procedure

Follow the instructions below to develop a claim for a disabled child prior to age 16.

  • Have the mother or father of the claimant complete a Form SSA-3368, Disability Report — Adult.

  • Prepare a folder for the disability material on the child.

  • Forward the folder to the Disability Determination Services (DDS) of the State in which the child resides.

  • Notify the Processing Center (PC) on a report of contact that a childhood disability determination is pending. For procedures on childhood disability development, see RS 00203.085B.

  • Explain to the mother or father that her or his benefits will terminate if the child attains age 16 before we make the disability determination.

  • If other claimants are simultaneously filing, process the disability claims as a delayed claim.
