The purpose of this POMS supplement is to advise you of Social Security coverage issues with some Missouri Public School District and some Missouri Community College employees.

Some employees who are in positions covered by Social Security are not paying Social Security taxes. A few employees are incorrectly contributing to Social Security when the position they occupy is not a Social Security covered position.

The implementation date for the coverage changes for all entities was July 1, 2010. Employees of the Kansas City MO Public School District #33 and the St. Louis City School District have their own retirement systems and are not affected by these changes.

Individuals with questions in the State of Missouri should be directed to their local field office. Individuals outside of Missouri should be directed to the Jefferson City Missouri field office.
