10.00 MULTIPLE BODY SYSTEM

A.
The impairments included in this section usually involve more than a single body system.

B.
Long-term obesity will usually be associated with disorders in the musculoskeletal,
cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and pulmonary systems, and the advent of such
disorders is the major cause of impairment. Extreme obesity results in restrictions
imposed by body weight and the additional restrictions imposed by disturbances in
other body systems.
10.01 CATEGORY OF IMPAIRMENTS, MULTIPLE BODY SYSTEMS
10.02 Hansen's disease (leprosy). As active disease or consider as “under a disability” while hospitalized.
10.03 Polyarteritis or periarteritis nodosa (established
by biopsy). With signs of generalized arterial involvement.
10.04 Disseminated lupus erythematosus (established
by a positive LE preparation or biopsy or positive ANA test). With frequent exacerbations demonstrating involvement of renal or cardiac or pulmonary
or gastrointestinal or central nervous systems.
10.05 Scleroderma or progressive systemic sclerosis
(the diffuse or generalized form). With:
-
A.
Advanced limitation of use of the hands due to sclerodactylia or limitation in other
joints; or
-
B.
Significant visceral manifestations of digestive, cardiac, or pulmonary impairment.
10.10 Obesity. Weight equal to or greater than the values specified in Table I for males, Table
II for females (100 percent above desired level) and one of the following:
-
A.
History of pain and limitation of motion in any weight bearing joint or spine; or
-
B.
Hypertension with diastolic blood pressure persistently in excess of 100 mm. Hg measured
with appropriate size cuff; or
-
C.
History of congestive heart failure manifested by past evidence of vascular congestion
such as hepatomegaly, peripheral or pulmonary edema; or
-
D.
Chronic venous insufficiency with superficial varicosities in a lower extremity with
pain on weight bearing and persistent edema; or
-
E.
Respiratory disease with total forced vital capacity equal to or less than 2.0 L.
or a level of hypoxemia at rest equal to or less than the values specified in Table
III-A or III-B or III-C.
