A. Introduction

The Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA) provides funds to the States for the functions necessary to make disability determinations for the Federal Government.

This subchapter addresses the funding process and the Federal/State relationship between the Disability Determination Services (DDSs) and the Social Security Administration.

B. Description-chapter structure

The chapter is organized by functional areas and includes such topics as Quality Assurance, Personnel, Training, Travel, Office Space, Equipment, Medical Services, Supplies, etc.

The instructions and standards in all subchapters are mandatory except as noted otherwise. Guides where noted are discretionary or advisory.
