DI 70020.001 Paper Modular Disability Folder (MDF) – Processing Center (PC) Procedures

 

A. Introduction to the paper Modular Disability Folder (MDF)

The Modular Disability Folder (MDF) is the official folder for paper cases. It promotes uniform assembly for all disability claims processing components within the Social Security Administration and the Disability Determination Services (DDS). For general instructions about using the MDF, see DI 70005.005.

NOTE: Public contact personnel should not disclose disability claim determinations or decisions to a claimant or claimant representative until case processing is complete.

B. Using the paper MDF in the Processing Center (PC)

In addition to following the MDF instructions in DI 70005.005, follow the PC specific instructions in this subsection.

1. PC Technicians

During the course of case processing and in post-entitlement actions, PC technicians are to follow the procedures in DI 70005.005B for filing documents in the correct section. Clearly mark documents, indicating the appropriate MDF section, for filing by clerical staff.

 

2. PC Clerical staff

PC clerical staff are to file material in the correct section as annotated by the technician, or as indicated by the nature of the material, as provided in DI 70005.005B.
