SI 00830.555 Trade Readjustment Act Payments

CITATIONS:

19 U.S.C. section 2271, et seq. (“Trade Act of 1974”)

A. Introduction

Trade Readjustment Act payments are usually made by the Department of Labor through State unemployment offices to persons who have lost their jobs or had their hours of work reduced because of trade with other countries.

B. Policy

Trade Readjustment Act payments are unearned income for SSI purposes.

C. Procedure

Use documents in the individual's possession (such as an award letter) to verify the nature and amount of these payments. If such documents are not available, use locally established procedures to contact the State unemployment office to obtain this information. Document the verification on the Evidence (EVID) screen or a report of contact with the State unemployment office.
