SI NY01801.107 (New York) The Food Stamp Household

A food stamp household is defined as individuals in a household who buy and prepare their meals together. In addition to the criteria outlined in SI 01801.060, the following possible exceptions also apply in New York State:

A. FOSTER CARE CHILD

A New York State DSS foster care child living with a food stamp applicant may be part of that applicant's household or the applicant may choose not to include the foster child (and the foster child's income) in his/her food stamp household.

B. LEVEL I OR LEVEL II FACILITY

An SSI applicant living in a New York State Level I or II facility will generally be considered his/her own household for F/S purposes. Applications for these individuals will generally be filed by an official resource agent or authorized representative on behalf of the resident.
