SI 02305.122 RZs Involving Essential Person(s)
Recipients with an essential person(s) (EP) on their record may receive increments to the Federal benefit rate.
Continuing EP status is a factor when determining a recipient's continuing eligibility and payment amount.
Determine continuing EP status. If the recipient receives an EP increment and the EP:
Continues to meet EP criteria outlined in SI 00501.100C., document continuing EP status on an SSA-8010-BK, or the REMARKS section of the SSA-8203-BK, SSA-8202-F6 or on a signed SSA-795.
Loses EP status per one of the conditions outlined in SI 00501.110, document the reason the EP status was lost and the date it was lost on an SSA-8010-BK, or the REMARKS section of the SSA-8203-BK, SSA-8202-F6 or on a signed SSA-795.

Document the date of death and any changes in countable income and resources, including the amount deemed to the recipient, on a SSA-795, SSA-8010-BK, or the REMARKS section of the SSA-8203-BK or SSA-8202-F6.
NOTE: Document the EP's income and resources, from the first day of the period of review, through the month of death. The EP's income and resources are deemed to the recipient through the month of death per SI 01320.800C.
IMPORTANT: If you do not transmit the RZ initiation date with the death input, the system will:
3. Lead and Protective Filing
It is important to use the RZ as an opportunity to identify individuals who may be eligible for benefits. See SI 00601.020A.2. and GN 00202.001B.2. to determine if naming the EP on the RZ meets the criteria of a SSI protective writing or a lead. If it is a lead or protective filing, see SI 00601.037 for the proper closeout procedures.
