SI 02901.700 How the FAX Process Works

A. Introduction

The FAX system provides the States case-by-case accounting data for Federally administered supplementation. With the FAX information, the States can reconcile accounting data. In this section, we describe the process.

B. Process

This chart describes how the FAX process works at SSA.

StageWhat Happens
1Accounting data are retrieved from each SSI run during a given accounting month.
2At the close of the accounting month, file totals are verified. The tapes are created and shipped to the States.
3OCFO prepares the form SSA-8700.
4Using the SSA-8700, OSSI bills the supplementing States each month. At the end of the fiscal year, OSSI and the States settle that year's accounting.
