HI 00610.306 Pneumococcal Vaccine and Its Administration
   
   
   
   Prior to the enactment of P.L. 96-611 all vaccinations or inoculations were excluded
      from coverage as “immunizations” unless they were directly related to the treatment of an injury or direct exposure
      to a disease or condition, such as antirabies treatment, tetanus antitoxin, etc. Effective
      July 1, 1981 Part B of Medicare pays 100 percent of the reasonable charges for pneumococcal
      pneumonia vaccine and its administration to a patient if it is ordered by a physician
      who is a doctor of medicine or osteopathy.
