The Office of Data Exchange, Policy Publications, and International Negotiations is now responsible for negotiating and implementing bilateral Social Security agreements. Accordingly, we are revising existing Totalization POMS sections to account for new component names, addresses, and workload processes. We also updated these instructions to meet the Agency's plain language requirements.

GN 01760.225 Requests for Status of Application for Uruguayan Benefits
We updated this section to provide new instructions for handling requests for status of applications for Uruguayan benefits filed with the Social Security Administration, Division of International Operations.
When the Division of International Operations (DIO) forwards claims material (such as information about a Uruguayan claim, certified copies of evidence, or a copy of the worker’s U.S. coverage record) to Uruguay, the Benefit Earnings Technician (BET) electronically stores the claims material in the Paperless Processing Center (PPC) system in DIO before forwarding the claim to the Uruguayan agency. The system automatically generates a notice that the BET sends to the applicant. The notice informs the applicant that DIO forwarded the claims material to Uruguay.
If an applicant contacts the Social Security Administration (SSA) for status of his or her claim for Uruguayan benefits and states that he or she has not received notification that DIO forwarded the claim to the Uruguayan agency, check the PPC system. NOTE: Field offices are able to check the PPC system through the Paperless ROQS (Read Only Query System), accessible via iMain.
If PPC does not show that DIO forwarded the claim to Uruguay, advise the applicant to write directly to DIO at the following address:
