Summary of Changes
RM 00207.040 FO Procedures — Auxiliary or Survivor Claimant Has an SSN
In support of Information Technology Modernization (IT Mod), the Numerical Identification "NUMIDENT" query was replaced with a new web-based query on October 20, 2018. This transmittal updates references to the NUMIDENT query with plain language indicators, specifically by using the uppercase wording of "NUMIDENT."
In support of Information Technology Modernization (IT Mod), the Alpha-index query was replaced with a new web-based Alphabetical Identification (Alphident) Query on June 29, 2019. This transmittal replaces obsolete references to "alpha-index query" with "Alphabetical Identification (ALPHIDENT) query."
Confirm the SSN by using the NUMIDENT query.
NOTE: In most cases, the Pre-Interview Operation in MCS will automatically query the NUMIDENT for a possible match.
If replacement SSN card needed or unable to locate/verify SSN via ALPHIDENT /NUMIDENT queries:
Obtain an SS-5 and appropriate evidence.
Enter the claim number in the CAN block.
Process the SS-5.
NOTE: When the claim number is entered in the CAN block, the system will cross-refer the applicant's SSN to the MBR.
