A. Purpose
This EM instructs field office (FO) technicians to use the new SSA-4290 barcode in Evidence Portal (EP) to transmit Section 301 cases and related documents to the Office of Disability Operations (ODO).

B. Background
Current Section 301 procedures require ODO’s mailroom staff to manually open and review faxed images to identify the documents and manually route those documents to the correct Disability Examiner Unit’s (DEU) for review. However, recent enhancements now allow FO technicians to upload the form SSA-4290 (and related documents) into the EP for electronic routing to ODO. This reduces the effort required by technicians to route the form, thereby reducing processing time.

C. Instructions
Effective immediately, technicians should no longer fax the SSA-4290 and flag to ODO using the paperless fax number. Instead, technicians should:

    1. Upload/fax the SSA-4290-F5 and supporting documents into eView.

    2. Transmit the case to ODO by uploading the Potential Section 301 Case Flag along with the SSA-4290 and related documents to the Paperless Processing Center (PPC) using the Evidence Portal’s (EP) 4290 Barcode.

Policy will update POMS with the new instructions. For more information on using the Evidence Portal refer to the User guide.
