Check item 3(f) or 13(e) of form SSA-2490 for a worker's or a widow(er)'s allegation of citizenship.

Enter the alleged citizenship in item II.A.8 or II.B.8. of liaison form SSA-e2960-U3-AU.

Attach to the SSA-e2960-U3-AU a photocopy of any evidence of citizenship contained in the file (e.g. a naturalization certificate, passport, etc.)

Enter “unknown” in block II.A.8 or II.B.8 of the SSA-e2960-U3-AU if the file does not contain any allegation or evidence of citizenship (e.g. form SSA-2490 is not in file or the appropriate question is unanswered).

Obtain an MBR to try to ascertain the person's civil status. If the MBR is NIF, advise the Austrian agency that the civil status is unknown, unless there is evidence of marriage or divorce in file. In that case attach a photocopy to the liaison form, SSA-e2960-U3-AU.

If the request is for the worker and the MBR shows that there is a spouse currently entitled on the worker's SSN or the worker is currently entitled as a spouse on another SSN inform the Austrian agency that the worker is married but that the date is unknown.

If the request is for the worker's widow(er) and the MBR shows that he/she is currently entitled on the worker's SSN, advise the Austrian agency that the worker and widow(er) were married but that the date is unknown.

In all other situations inform the Austrian agency that the civil status is unknown.
