A. Policy Principle

Evidence must show impairment will last for a period of 12 consecutive months or result in death.

B. Operating Policy

1. STABILITY POST MI

A period of recovery is needed post MI before stability is achieved.

2. EVALUATION POST MI

Evaluation of the clinical findings should ordinarily be no earlier than 3 months post MI in order to be able to adequately assess severity and duration.

3. EXCEPTION TO 3-MONTH GUIDELINE

An earlier decision is appropriate if the evidence is persuasive.
