This section describes the Kill Credit Response (KCRS) screen and explains how to complete it.

C. DESCRIPTION OF KCRS SCREEN

The KCRS screen is used by the Processing Center to provide information about a kill credit action taken against a railroad certified beneficiary. It is also used by RRB to change the railroad claim number.

D. PROCEDURE

To use the KCRS screen access the Railroad main menu (RCRT screen) and select option 9 or transfer to the KCRS screen from one of the optional screens on the RCRT main menu.

When the... Then the...
KCRS screen is selected system will fill-in data from the RCRT screen to the unit, social security number, beneficiary identification code and RRB claim number fields.

The following chart explains how to complete the KCRS screen,field by field.

Key:  The Field  in this chart is the number of the field in exhibit B. above. The TYPE column indicates if completion of the field is mandatory or if it is conditional on other factors. “M” means completion is mandatory, “C” means completion is conditional.

Header Line:  Identifies that this is a RRB screen, provides the full name and acronym of the screen.

  • If no, enter N.

If the beneficiary is being (or will be) reestablished on another account, enter the new social security number.

If RRB is entering information, enter the new railroad claim number.

If the answer to BENEFICIARY BEING REESTABLISHED ON ANOTHER ACCOUNT OR UNDER ANOTHER BIC is Yes, completion of this field is mandatory.

If RRB is entering information, enter new beneficiary symbol and prefix.

If the answer to BENEFICIARY BEING REESTABLISHED ON ANOTHER ACCOUNT OR UNDER A DIFFERENT BIC is Yes, completion of this field is mandatory.

  • the new RRIC is blank, indicating that SSA has certification responsibility, enter “1“.

  • the new RRIC is “R”, indicating that RRB has certification responsibility, enter “2”
