SI 00815.100 Food and Shelter Received During a Medical Confinement

A. Policy

  1. 1. 

    Food and shelter received during a medical confinement are not income.

  2. 2. 

    A medical confinement exists when an individual receives inpatient medical services (defined in SI 00815.050 B.1.a.) in a medical treatment facility.

B. Procedure

The file must be documented to show the place and dates of the inpatient stay. When a multiple-purpose facility is involved, the file must also be documented to show the medical purpose of the confinement.

NOTE: See SI 00835.704 when in-kind support and maintenance received in an institution cannot be disregarded using this section. See SI 00520.001 for required documentation of other aspects of an institutional stay.
