From January 1, 1974 through March 31, 1996 all Maine State supplementary payments, mandatory and optional, were Federally administered. Beginning April 1, 1996 the State administers all payments. After the 12-month period following cessation of Federal administration of State supplement payments, March 31, 1997, SSA no longer considers State supplementation for any calculation, or recalculation, of SSI payments for the period January 1, 1974 through March 31, 1996.
