            A.
Use brown pencil for making all entries on I-157's, and place a checkmark( ) next
to each part of each name checked.

            B.
Search the Alphadent Microfilm File for SSN's for which the name and date of birth
(all three parts) shown on film and the name and date of birth shown on the I-157
are in “exact” agreement. Apply the following special rules in determining whether the names are
                  in “exact” agreement.

                  -

                        1.
In general, consider names to agree if there is only a minor difference in spelling
(one letter added, one letter omitted, one letter different, or a transposition of
two adjacent letters) unless the difference actually makes a different name.

-

                        2.
Consider the middle names to agree if one is a complete name and the other an initial
                              that agrees.

-

                        3.
If the name on the I-157 consists of more than three parts, it is sufficient if any
given name and any surname agree with those on film. Also, regardless of the number
of parts, if a Spanish hyphenated surname appears on the form, it is sufficient if
either part agrees with the surname on film.

-

            C.
If an alias is shown on the I-157 and no SSN was located in accordance with paragraph
                  B. above, make the same search using the alias instead of the primary name shown on
                  the I-157.

-

            D.
If an SSN(s) is located, enter it in the SSN section of the I-157 (or on the lower
part of the form if there is not sufficent space in the SSN section).

-
