The original SSN is the first SSN assigned to an individual.
A new SSN is a different SSN assigned to an adopted child or to an individual when the requirements in Resolving SSN Problems RM 10220.000 are met. A new SSN is always cross referred to the original SSN.
A replacement card bears the same SSN and can be either a card showing the same name and restrictive legend as shown on the previous SSN card, or a card showing a different name or restrictive legend from the previous SSN card.
