Claims packages will not have to be prepared for claims filed in Norway because claimants
who file claims with a local office of the Norwegian Insurance Institute (NII) and
appear eligible for benefits from the United States will be given protective filing
statements and referred to the U.S. FSP to complete their claims for benefits from
the United States. Likewise, if claimants file claims for U.S. benefits at the FSP
in Norway and appear eligible for Norwegian benefits, the claimants will be given
protective filing statements and referred to a local office of the NII to complete
claims for benefits from Norway. Even if documentation is missing, assume the FSP
personnel have taken this action.
In addition, the FSP in Norway will request Norwegian coverage certifications from
the FFU for claimants for U.S. benefits who appear to be PET. The FFU will forward
the earnings certifications directly to the modules in DIO.
Follow the guidelines below in processing claims for U.S. benefits filed in the FSP
in Norway by a PET claimant.
