This section describes retirement, survivors, and disability benefits. These are the
only Slovak benefits included within the scope of the agreement.
NOTE: The retirement age in the Slovak Republic is in the process of transition. Prior
to 2004, the retirement age for women was as low as age 53. Starting in 2004, this
age began to increase. For men born 1946 or later, the retirement age is 62. For women,
each year the retirement age rises until it reaches age 62 for those born in 1953,
i.e., in 2015. However, under current rules, the retirement age will remain below
age 62 until 2024 for some women, based on number of children. From 2017, the retirement
age in the Slovak Republic will rise with increases in life expectancy.
