The Hungarian birth registration number or Hungarian Insurance Number is the TAJ.
Hungary uses a random process is to issue a TAJ to each person born in Hungary at
birth and consists of nine numeric digits. The last digit is the controlling number.
Hungary first issued TAJ numbers in 1992. Individuals who left Hungary before 1992
may not have one. Since 1992, all workers in Hungary must have a TAJ.
Note: Include the TAJ number on all correspondence. If you do not provide the birth
registration number, provide the worker’s date of birth, place of birth, and name
used when the individual worked in Hungary.
