AFDC Assistance Standards
Use the Special Children Standard if:
-
•
The parent(s) living with the child(ren) receives SSI or Minnesota Supplemental Aid
-
-
•
The eligible relative caretaker who applies for the child(ren) receives SSI or MSA;
or
-
•
The unit contains no adults due to the parent's being sanctioned for failure to cooperate
with STRIDE (employment program) or IV-D (child support and medical support from an
absent parent).
Use the Children Only Standard in all other cases when the unit contains no adults.
Also use the Children Only Standard for minor caretakers who live with a parent who
is not on AFDC. If there are also 1 or 2 adult caretakers in the unit, use the standard
from the proper column. If additional adults are in the unit, also use the second
adult standard amount of $73 for them.
Use the Special Adult Standard when a unit consists of 1 adult (or a minor caretaker
not living with a parent) because:
-
•
The unit is a woman eligible for AFDC-Pregnant Woman; or
-
•
All children in the unit are receiving SSI.
-
•
The only dependent child in the unit is sanctioned for failure to comply with Project
Pride.
Determine unit size by the number of people in the unit in the payment month.
