Burundi has no single, nationwide repository of civil registration records. Records are held at the local level in the office of the mayor of the town in which the event occurred or, in the case of birth records, the town where the individual's mother lives.

B. Procedure for requesting birth, marriage, divorce, and death records

1. Office to contact

For birth records, contact the office of the mayor in the town where the individual's mother lives. For marriage, death, and divorce records, contact the office of the mayor in the town where the event took place. Address requests to the Civil Registry Officer (Officier de l'Etat Civil).
