GN 01728.025 Portuguese Liaison Agencies

A. INTRODUCTION

There are two liaison agencies in Portugal that are responsible for implementing the Portuguese agreement. The Centro Nacional de Pensoes (NCP), located in Lisbon is the principal agency. There also is a smaller agency in the Azores, Nucleo Coord. de Prest. Diferidas, which processes claims under the agreement for residents and former residents of the Azores.

C. PROCEDURE

Use the following procedure to determine the proper Portuguese agency.

1. Claim for Portuguese Benefits or Request for Portuguese Coverage Record

    If you are sending a claim for Portuguese benefits or requesting a Portuguese coverage record, check the application Form SSA-2490-F4 to determine if the worker's last residence in Portugal was in the Azores.

    If the worker resided in the Azores, then send the claim or request for a Portuguese coverage record to the Nucleo Coord. de Prest. Diferidas.

  • •

    If the worker did not reside in the Azores, send the material to the NCP in Lisbon.

2. Response to Assistance Request from a Portuguese Agency

If you are responding to an assistance request from a Portuguese agency, then write to the agency which requested the information; either the NCP or the Nucleo Coord de Prest. Diferidas.
