RS 00605.016 Elapsed Years Using the 1978 New Start Method

A. Elapsed years computations

The number of computation years used to determine the average indexed monthly earnings (AIME) is dependent on the number of elapsed years as defined in this section.

1. Retirement insurance benefit (RIB) computation

Count the years after 1950 up to the year the number holder (NH) attains age 62.

2. Disability insurance benefit (DIB) computation

Count the years after 1950 up to the earlier of:

  • the year of attainment of age 62 or

  • the year the waiting period begins. For information on the waiting period, see RS 00605.201.

3. Survivor computation

Count the years after 1950 up to the earlier of:

  • the year of attainment of age 62 or

  • the year of death.

4. Elapsed year exclusions

  • Exclude the years before the year of attainment of age 22.

  • Exclude the years wholly or partially in a period of disability that is not disregarded.
